One of the cultural most interesting places is the oasis city Ghadames. Located in the west part of Libya, this was an important basis for the Trans-Sahara-Trade. A gorgeous Old Town calls the traveler for a visit. A wonderful architecture is presented here and this place could be a perfectly provided as a setting for a fairy tale of “1001 Arabian Nights”. The Old Town of Ghadames was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The inhabitants of the oasis consist of the Berber and the Tuareg. Interesting is the meaning of the number seven in this place. Ghadames has seven neighborhoods, which can be entered through seven gates. In the past as today Ghadames is inhabited by seven clans. So, if you travel in the desert, you have to visit Ghadames.
