This is today’s capital for the political administration of the Djebel al-Akhdar (which means „Green Mountain“ and is a municipal, i.e. something like a federal state). The city possess only very few ancient sites (strictly speaking only the rest of a temple nearby …), but it lends itself to starting base for visiting Cyrene and Appollonia for example and for exploration of the area of the Djebel Akhdar. In Al Bayda itself, only the Jumen palace, in which the religious university resides, and the White Mosque is worth seeing. Both however do not derive from the ancient world!
